Lesson 2014
Saturday, January 3, 2015

Happy new year.  I've not been active in blogging for months.  I'm deeply guilty for this actually.  Months ago, I stopped blogging because of SPM examination.  I didn't continue blogging due to Program Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN) or National Service as Singaporeans would say.  I entered PLKN on 7th of December 2014.  My campsite is Batu Jong, Kuala Krai, Kelantan.  I never come to know that it is the best campsite in whole Malaysia until the coaches there told me.  Batu Jong ranks first out of all of the campsite in our country.  So I'm kinda proud of it hehe.  And I love it for being so welcoming.  The people there are mostly approachable and warm.  The food there is nice, it's really not that terrible as others said. The facilities are ok.
I'm in Dorm B, which means my company is Alpha.  We have all together 8 dorms and 4 companies - Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta.  I have 3 Chinese including me in my dorm and 17 Malays left.  The reason I used to word "left" is because there were actually more of us initially, but a few of them have been excused out of the camp, most probably due to their health problem.  Some got allergy, asthma etc.
I'm pretty glad that the bathroom & toilet is only behind the dorm, I don't have to walk a long distance even if I were to have an "emergency".  We have a relatively huge hall, Dewan Kirana.  And a medium-sized Padang kawad (site for marching).  Our activities are basically the same every day.  We wake up early at 5.30 am and after an hour, we have our physical training which includes exercise, aerobics and so on.  At 7.30 am, we have our breakfast. Then we queued up for Character Building class at 8.30 am.  CB class ends at 12.30 pm, which is the time for lunch.  In between the class we will leave for 30 minutes for tea.  At 4.30 pm, another tea. Dinner falls at 6.30 pm and then another tea before sleep.  All in all we have 6 meals per day.  If you're hungry at night, you can order some food at the cafe in the campsite.  The food there is affordable.
The first week is quite fun, you get to meet your dorm mates, befriend them.  Then we had Kontrak Kita Janji (KKJ).  It's a presentation in which the selecteds represent their company and introduce their company.  I grab the chance to stand up on the stage.  I introduced Alpha's motto.  My text was like "Moto  kompeni Alfa ialah tangkas pantas Dan tepat..." Then I gave the meaning for the motto chosen.  I was so panic-stricken and my heart beat so fast when it was my turn.  But the moment passed really fast.  The second week was quite meaningless as the third week was.  The rain fell without fail.  Most of the activities were cancelled.  Subsequently we ended up eating and sleeping.
Our campsite was flooded in the fourth week so all of us moved to a school nearby for temporary shelter.  The life with no electricity and water started.  We used rain water for brushing teeth, washing our faces.  No one bathed in the first 3 days.  After that the coach told us there were water in the mosque.  We were hilarious that we finally could bathe and pass motion lol.  I was extremely grateful that we got to eat 3 meals per day !  Food is considered a relatively precious stuff for refugees, to be frank.  We spent a total of 9 days there until we got the permission to get back home on 1st of January 2015.  No word can describe our happiness, like seriously.  My luggage is safe from flood water.  This is because dorm B is situated higher as compared to other buildings in the campsite.  Dorm A is the highest.  Wiras' luggages were immersed in water.  That is terrific.  I am not sure about wirawati from other dorms.  Tomorrow , I will be back to Batu Jong again for PLKN.  I sincerely hope the electrical and water supply are back on demands.
From this incident, I can see that human beings are indeed fragile, we are powerless in the face of natural disasters.  Those disasters are pretty disastrous and devastating.  However, people can be selfish and way too self-centred.  To conclude, you can learn someone from their heart when you need help, for they are kind, or vice versa.
